You will get more minutes and service time for your money if you buy a phone/minute card. You always get 2 months service when you activate a phone along with the minutes and service time that comes with the card.
Always check for Tracfone bonus coupon codes before you buy your minutes. Using these codes will bring your cost per minute down significantly.

Don’t Purchase TracFone Minutes Cards
At the Tracfone web site you can purchase a phone and receive more minutes than if you purchase a card. Often Tracfone has on special in the “buy phones” section where for the same price as a 450 minute card you get a free phone. This special, when available is only in the Tracfone Purchase Phones section. If you go to the “buy airtime” section of the web site you will pay full price for the unit cards.
Do Not Activate a lot of Minutes on your Tracfone Phone
I do not recommend having too many Tracfone Minutes on your phone for a couple of reasons. With a broken, lost or stolen phone it is hard to get your minutes back on a new phone from Tracfone. Also I have found when I have lots of minutes on a phone I use a lot more minutes.

The One Year Plan can be a good deal. Again if your phone is broken, lost or stolen you will have a hassle getting Tracfone customer service to transfer these benefits to your new phone. I recently got a bonus code (55118) for 300 minutes on a one year card. I used this code and the one year card on a DMFL phone and ended up with 1100 minutes and 12 months for $99.99.
If you use Tracfone Bonus codes and purchase your minutes on special you will get more TracFone Minutes for your money.
Only Buy a Tracfone with DMFL
Only buy The Doubler Card on the phone, even if you only use 100-200 minutes per month you are still better off only buying a Tracfone with the DMFL (double minutes for life) card included. The DMFL card will usually cost you $50 but you can buy the Motorola W370 with DMFL for $20, you will get the doubler for free.
If you are absolutely certain you will use no more than 70 minutes per month you might purchase one of the Tracfones without the DMFL. I still would not recommend it. You are much better off purchasing a phone with the DMFL (double minutes for life).
Moto W370, LG 225, Lg 3280 with DMFL
The Moto W370 and the Lg cg225 phones now always come with DMFL (double minutes for life). These phones are the nicest phones offered by Tracfone. Usually the price is the lower than what you will pay to add DMFL to a Tracfone. I recommend you buy the nicer Tracfone with DMFL and a Tracfone Minute Card included.
